Devenu mondial, ce 3ème Festival par invitation d'Artistes de 23 pays du monde entier. Quatre Musées d'Art Naïf en France sont invités à partager cet évènement unique au monde. En plus de la peinture, de la sculpture et de la céramique, la nouveauté sera cette année la tapisserie naïve. Son Excellence l'Ambassadeur de Serbie sera au Vernissage et une quinzaine de peintres Serbes seront aussi présents pour entourer Dragan MIHAILOVIC, grand Prix du Public 2006. C'est à lui que revient l'honneur de faire l'affiche du 3ème Festival. Le Sculpteur Polonais Joseph SCZEPULOWA sera là également.
Toute aventure humaine a un début. Puis lorsqu'on oublie les dates tellement c'est loin, on dit: "il était une fois". Quelques histoires finissent même avec le temps en légende.
A chaque fois que je dois réécrire notre histoire du Festival d'Art Naïf, je m'aperçois que je m'éloigne un peu plus. Et pourtant, quand je me replonge dans le récit de cette aventure, tout redevient vivant.
Tout a commencé en août et septembre 2003, lors de la première exposition personnelle de Martha Kolodziej , ma femme, à la Tour Grise de Verneuil-sur-Avre. Il faisait beau et malgré notre retour au travail cela sentait toujours les vacances. Les visiteurs venant voir l'exposition étaient détendus et je me rappelle que beaucoup d'entre eux avaient un sourire aux lèvres qu'ils gardaient le temps de la visite. Nous avions accueilli 2 300 personnes.
Tous les soirs quand nous sortions de cette Tour Grise, nous avions en face de nous l'ancienne église, énorme voir même colossale tant elle dépasse la cime des tilleuls. Tout le monde l'appelle maintenant: l'espace St Laurent. Mais dans mon esprit cette "géante" était en attente d'une renommée.
Comment réaliser une expo dans ce lieu magique avec seulement une dizaine de tableaux par an, production de Martha ? Elle me dit: "Pourquoi ne pas chercher 4 ou 5 autres peintres ? Cela ferait moins vide comme çà". L'idée était lancée mais sa réalisation fut toute autre.
Voilà comment est né le Festival : La gestation fut longue et difficile. Un an et demi, parsemé de chausse-trappes mais aussi de quelques miracles. On avait l'impression que tout le monde était contre nous. A chaque pas que l'on faisait, on prenait des coups de partout et parfois il fallait dire merci. Surtout du coté de la Mairie. Pas avec nous.
Nous avons même essuyé une tempête, enfin une cabale, comme dans les films où les héros se prennent tous les malheurs du monde sur la tête. Nous étions pareils sauf que ce n'était pas un film. Cette cabale était orchestrée par quelques peintres "disparus" qui préféraient faire leurs petites affaires en privé.
Le premier Festival a vu le jour le 23 mars 2005, week-end de Pâques. Nous avons deux filles qui se suivent à un an d'intervalle. Ce jour là nous avions un fils de plus : Festival. C'est un beau prénom ? Non?
Notre famille s'était agrandie. Comme tous les parents nous avons maintenant plein de rêves pour lui aussi. Nous espérons qu il va grandir chaque année un peu plus et qu'il deviendra la fierté de sa famille.
Le bilan quantitatif fut modeste pour l'affiche proposée car 36 peintres et 3 sculpteurs venant de 6 pays ont présentés 370 œuvres personnelles. Les visiteurs n'étaient que 3 722. Le "Prix du Public 2005" fut décerné à Régine MOURARET de St Paul de Vence (06).
Le deuxième Festival s'est déroulé du 01er avril au 01 mai 2006.Le bilan ne fut pas non plus à la hauteur malgré les efforts colossaux déployés pour vaincre la force de gravité. 4 762 personnes nous ont fait l'honneur de leur visite. Ils ont découvert 60 artistes venant de 15 pays différents et présentant plus de 500 œuvres. La nouveauté du second Festival fut l'ouverture faite à la céramique naïve. Le "Prix du Public 2006" fut décerné à Dragan MIHAILOVIC de SERBIE.
Depuis personne ne peut plus nous arrêter. On va repeindre le monde avec tout plein d'arcs en ciel racontant tout un tas d'histoires du temps ou il faisait bon vivre. Il ne nous reste plus qu'à faire de Verneuil-sur-Avre, l'Auvers-sur-Oise de la peinture naïve et l'espace St Laurent deviendra son phare. Il ne dépend plus de chacun de nous de réaliser ces paroles prophétiques d'Henri BRUEL.
Cette histoire est arrivée à des gens tout ce qu'il y a de plus normaux qui voulaient faire quelque chose de leur vie, pour leur ville et pour l'Art Naïf.
On a vraiment failli arrêter une fois. Mais on a tenu bon. Aujourd'hui quand on en parle on se dit que finalement, ON A EU RAISON DE CONTINUER.
